New Albany man accuses wife of cutting him

Wife denies allegations

NEW ALBANY — A woman was arrested for battery over the weekend after she reportedly cut her husband during an argument.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Mary Miller, 44, New Albany, told police she didn’t know how her husband, Dennis, got cut. But when they arrived, he told them she cut his hand with a white ceramic knife.

He said he made some food and after sitting down to eat, she “went off,” started knocking over things and to argue with him. He said she took the knife from the kitchen and held it toward him as they continued arguing.

After refusing her demand to leave, he she lunged at him. He said he got his hand cut after trying to grab her arm.

Officers entered the home, where Mary Miller told them Dennis had thrown some decorative balls at her head, but officers didn’t see any visible signs of injury to her. She said nothing else happened.

The officer reported seeing blood on the sink, the kitchen counter and some on a coffee table near Mary. Also on the counter was a recently-washed white ceramic knife.

The officer told her that Dennis told them that she cut him, but she denied it. She said to check the knife for fingerprints, but the officer told her it had obviously been washed.

She told the officer she didn’t know how his hand got cut, but the officer didn’t tell her where he was injured. She said he cut himself and told her he was going to have her arrested.

Both Dennis and Mary admitted to drinking throughout the day.

Miller entered an initial plea of not guilty in Floyd Superior Court 3 on Tuesday. Her bench trial is scheduled for Dec. 17 at 8:30 a.m.
