Arrest made in Henryville following assaults

Man beats on stepfather because he couldn’t borrow vehicle

HENRYVILLE — A Henryville man was arrested after assaulting his stepfather, his girlfriend and a 52-year-old woman in his home, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office has reported.

Brian Basham, 26, was charged Wednesday with class D felony intimidation and three counts battery, all class A misdemeanors, after deputies responded to his home on Brownstown Road.

Before the deputy was dispatched to the home about 11 p.m. Monday on a fight call between a father and son, dispatch alerted that the son, later identified as Basham, was the aggressor in the altercation.

As the deputy spoke with the woman who had called authorities in the home, Basham came into the residence.

According to the incident report, the deputy attempted to place Basham in handcuffs since he had been identified as a suspect in the physical altercation.

Basham refused to be handcuffed, according to the report, so the deputy responded by grabbing his jacket and pinning him against a wall.

Basham then pushed off the wall, so the deputy released his hold, drew a Taser gun and ordered Basham to place his hands on the wall.

Again, Basham refused, and the deputy pinned him against the wall.

At this time, according to the report, Basham told the deputy, “Don’t try to handle me, [racial expletive]. I’m bigger than you and could take you easily, cause you’re a tiny-cop [racial expletive], and if we go at it, I’d break your [expletive] neck.”

The 52-year-old woman who called authorities was then able to calm Basham down enough that the deputy was able to place him in handcuffs.

The woman told the deputy that before his arrival, Basham had come to the home and wanted to borrow her vehicle. The woman thought he was under the influence of something and did not allow Basham to use her vehicle. She said he then kicked in the door of a bedroom where his stepfather was sleeping. The woman reported Basham then asked the man if he could borrow his pick-up truck, and was told that he could not.

Basham then began attacking his stepfather, according to the woman, and when she tried to stop the fight, Basham struck her in the mouth.

The stepfather was found with injuries to his face and swelling to his hand from striking Basham during the dispute.

The man said that after the fight, Basham left the home and kicked a rear panel of his truck, which caused damage to the vehicle.

Basham’s girlfriend was in the home at the time, and she also reported that Basham had come into the home asking to use a vehicle and kicked in a bedroom door and that a fight had ensued between the men. She told police when she had gone to break up the fight, Basham pushed her and pulled her hair.

Basham was transported from the home to the Michael L. Becher Adult Correctional Complex and was released two days later.

In April, Basham was charged with two counts intimidation in Clark County and has a change of plea hearing scheduled Dec. 3.
