Have you ever wondered what was talked about at a New Albany Parks Board meeting in 1957? Well, now is your chance to find out.
Friday morning, Floyd County Parks Director Roger Jeffers and New Albany Parks Director Alicia Meredith dropped off books of park board minutes dating back to May 1957 through 2012 to the Indiana Room in the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library. The minutes are from city, county and joint board meetings.
The public will now be able to look at the minutes at one location.
“The more public records we have the better,” said Matthew Eidem, archivist of the Indiana Room.
Jeffers and Meredith had the minutes transferred to disk for their use. The books had been in Jeffers office and he said it was time to deed them over to the Indiana Room.
“These are public minutes and now they are in one spot, where they need to be,” Jeffers said. “They are kept all together this way instead of having them in two different locations.”
Jeffers said the Floyd County Parks Board will likely continue to send minutes to the Indiana Room on a yearly basis. Meredith said the city board will probably consider doing the same thing.
“I think this is a great idea,” Meredith said. “The public can come in here and view these anytime they want.”
