Old Vincennes Road project moving forward

FLOYD COUNTY — The Indiana Department of Transportation met with Floyd County officials and its contractor Thursday at a preconstruction conference to discuss implementation of plans for a $2.77 million road reconstruction project along Old Vincennes Road in Georgetown Township.

Gohmann Construction of Clarksville is the project’s prime contractor. Its bid at last month’s INDOT letting was the lowest of three submitted.

Old Vincennes Road is being reconstructed and widened over the next two years — beginning southeast of Floyd Central High School and continuing for 1.07 miles to Reflection Lake subdivision.

The schedule includes:

• 2014 — Utility companies will relocate their services to clear the construction zone. The contractor expects to install new water lines.

• 2015 — Phase I construction begins after April 16, rebuilding Old Vincennes Road from its northwest project limit to Luther Road; this section of roadway will be closed to traffic. Phase II construction will rebuild the county road from Luther Road to its southeast project limit; again, there will be a full closure.

• The contract calls for Vincennes Road to be reopened to traffic by Nov. 27, 2015. All remaining work must be done on or before April 29, 2016.

This Floyd County LPA project calls for full-depth reconstruction of Old Vincennes Road using four lifts of asphalt over a treated subbase. The road will be widened to accommodate two 11-foot lanes with paved shoulders. The intersection at Luther Road will be improved. There will be pipe work for drainage and installation of four precast concrete culverts.

The Federal Highway Administration pays 80 percent of project costs.  Floyd County is responsible for 20 percent in matching funds and will used money received through the Charlestown Road relinquishment deal. The Indiana Department of Transportation administers federal funding and assures compliance with FHWA standards. Management consultant for the project is Strand Associates.
