‘Save our Earth’ festival back in New Albany

Exhibits still being accepted for event

NEW ALBANY — May is known locally for the Kentucky Derby and the transition from cold to warmer temperatures.

After the inaugural festival was a success last year, Trash Force Inc. members are hoping to make their “Save our Earth” festival an annual treat each May as well.

The second annual festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 17 at the New Albany Riverfront Amphitheater.

“We are preparing for an exciting festival that is both fund and educational,” Trash Force President Don Sodrel said. “This event offers individuals an opportunity to learn more about caring for the environment while enjoying free activities, food, music and other entertainment.”

Trash Force launched in 1989 in Floyd County by volunteers who wanted a local recycling program. The organization established a drop-off site for recyclables, and hauled the materials to the recycling center. Though recycling efforts have improved in Southern Indiana since the group’s inception, Trash Force continues to push for sustainable and green living.

The festival will feature a performance by the Jamey Aebersold Quartet and educational entertainment by Amazon Jungle John. Vendors also will be setting up with products related to environmental awareness.

Exhibits are still being accepted for the festival, and there’s no fee to set up. For more information, e-mail the organization at, or call Mary Ann Sodrel at 812-948-1292.
