Event to focus on archeology

As part of the celebration of national Preservation Month, the public is invited to a presentation focusing on Floyd County’s archaeological resources, and the ongoing efforts to identify and protect these resources.

Christopher Moore and Rebecca Van Sessen of the University of Indianapolis will provide background on the science of archaeology and how it can be used to understand the past, as well as what is known about the prehistory of Floyd County and gaps in that knowledge. They will also discuss a planned archaeological survey of the county, and how the community can be involved with that effort.

The presentation will take place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, in the Strassweg Auditorium of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library, 180 West Spring St. Call 812-944-8464 for more information.


Sign up for reading club

Registration for the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library’s Children’s Summer Reading Club began May 1. Sign up online at and receive an email reminder when it’s time to start reading and logging your minutes, books or activities.

The 2014 Summer Reading Club will run from May 27–July 26. NA-FC Library is offering reading clubs for all ages. For more information, contact the library’s Children’s Department at 812-949-3528.


Eastside holding special event

Eastside Christian Church will host an outreach “Family Portrait Day” event Saturday, May 17, at Community Action of Southern Indiana, 1613 E. Eighth St., Jeffersonville.

The event is an effort to build interest and awareness for Eastside on 8th, a weekly Sunday service that meets at CASI.

Anime club meeting Monday

Are you an Anime fan? If so, join the Anime Club to watch an episode — or two — and discuss anime and manga at 5 p.m. Monday, May 12, at the Sellersburg Library, 430 N. Indiana Ave., Sellersburg.

This program is open to youth 13-18 and registration is requested.
