Muzzle-loading contest coming up Saturday

CHARLESTOWN — Historic Tunnel Mill, 3709 Tunnel Mill Road Charlestown, will host local living history and muzzle-loading competition club, the Skurvy Dog Clan, for their annual fall rifle frolic from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 5.

Living history camps will surround the historic John Work House as re-enactors compete for prizes with flintlock rifles and muskets. This event is a recreation of gatherings that were common all across Kentucky and Southern Indiana in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

It was a way to get folks together and hold a friendly competition, but it was also a way of mustering militias and preparing for America’s second war for independence, the War of 1812. Free admission and parking. For additional details, call 812-606-1264.
