Woman killed in crash on Clark Memorial Bridge identified

Carolyn Strickler, 25, was from Louisville

LOUISVILLE — The woman killed in a single-vehicle accident on the Clark Memorial Bridge on Wednesday has been identified.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s office confirmed the driver of the BMW that crashed into a support beam on the bridge was Carolyn Strickler, 25, Louisville. The coroner’s office ruled the cause of death as multiple blunt force traumas.

According to eyewitness accounts and the Louisville Metro Police Department, Strickler was speeding and heading southbound from Jeffersonville into Louisville when she swerved into the northbound lanes of traffic and back into the southbound lanes before crashing into a support beam on the bridge. When rescue crews arrived at the scene of the accident, shortly after noon on Wednesday, Strickler was pronounced dead. It is believed she was not wearing a seatbelt.

The car Strickler was driving broke through he handrailing on the bridge and the vehicle’s rear tire was hanging off the bridge over the Ohio River.

The Clark Memorial Bridge was shut down for about three hours while Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials inspected and constructed a temporary railing on the bridge.
