Program gets gifts for seniors
Be a Santa to a Senior, the popular campaign that in nine years delivered thousands of gifts to local needy seniors, is being planned again this holiday season as older adults continue to face poverty and loneliness.
The area office of the Home Instead Senior Care network is joining Pleasant Ridge Elementary, Jonathan Jennings Elementary in Charlestown and Walmart to provide gifts and companionship to seniors who otherwise might not receive either.
People can pick up ornaments with the first names of seniors and their gift requests from Christmas trees, which will be up at the Walmart stores located at 2910 Grant Line Road, New Albany, and 1351 Veterans Pkwy., Clarksville, from Nov. 15 through Dec. 10. Buy items on the list and return them unwrapped to the store, along with the ornaments attached. Hundreds of the presents will be placed into gift bags decorated by the schools.
