Heart benefit planned for Twilight
A Chuck Robertson Heart Benefit is planned for Aug. 24 at Twilight Golf Course, 5316 E. Ind. 62, Jeffersonville. The entry fee is $150 for a foursome, which includes green fees and lunch. Payment is due by Aug. 20.
The tournament will be played in a scramble with four-person teams. If you do not enter a team list, you will be placed with others. This is open to the public. Children ages 9 to 12 must play with an experienced adult.
Robertson is a 37-year-old Jeffersonville resident who has been on a mechanical heart pump for the last 18 months while waiting for a transplant. With this device there are still worries, many trips to the doctor and frequent stays in the hospital.
In addition to the golf outing, a blood drive will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the golf course. The goal is 40 units of blood donated.
Health fair on the way
Eastside Christian Church, Centerstone and Community Action of Southern Indiana are partnering to host a Community Health, Education and Safety Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., July 20, at Eastside Christian Church, 2319 Veterans Pkwy., Jeffersonville. The event is free.
This venture is possible through collaborations from local community agencies and businesses that will be contributing time, talent, services and resources. The mission is to provide health care screenings, information, education and resources to underserved families and individuals in the community. Free services will include medical, optical, dental, clothing, shoes, healthy food, organic gardening and environmental awareness, family portraits, backpacks and hair cuts. Limited transportation will be provided at various locations throughout the community.

Little Flock hosting block party
Little Flock Baptist Church of Shepherdsville, Ky., will be hosting a block party from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, at 1727 Green St., Jeffersonville (D.L.Motley Way). Fun, free food, music, fellowship, bouncy toys for kids, corn hole, face painting and more.
Tea Party to meet next week
The Clark County Tea Party invites the public to the group’s weekly meeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m., July 11, at Silver Creek Middle School, 495 N. Indiana Ave., Sellersburg. The speaker will be State Sen. Jim Smith of District 45.

Bible school begins Thursday
The Crossing Christian Church, 4025 Earnings Way, New Albany, is holding its vacation Bible school from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, July 11-12, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, July 13, and celebration worship service at 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 14. A pitch-in picnic will follow the service.
The theme for VBS is “God’s Backyard Bible Camp” and is free and open to the community for children in grades K-5 and preschoolers 3 and 4 years old (must be potty trained). The four-day camp includes backyard games, crafts, snacks, music and a daily lesson.
Parks board session Thursday
The New Albany Parks Board will host a work session at noon Thursday, July 11, at the Griffin Activity Center to discuss setting priorities of renovation to existing park properties.
NAHS class of 1963 to meet
New Albany High School class of 1963 will hold a 50-year reunion, Aug. 2, Aug. 3 and Aug. 4.
On Friday, Aug. 2, a gathering will be at Newlin Hall, 2818 Green Valley Rd., New Albany, for an evening of fun, food, drinks, games and auctions. Music will be provided by the Monarchs.
Saturday, Aug. 3, will continue with a dinner and dance at the Calumet Club Ballroom, 1614 E. Spring St., New Albany. Dance music will be from The Doctors of Swing, a big-band orchestra.
The brunch on Sunday, Aug. 4, will be at LaBaco, 134 Market St., New Albany. There will be champagne and music to accompany the Italian brunch buffet.
