New Albany man arrested for burglary, assault

Reported attack took place at apartment complex

NEW ALBANY — A New Albany man was arrested Friday for allegedly breaking into an apartment, assaulting one of the occupants and stealing a television.

John L. Terry, 22, was arrested Friday and charged with class A felony burglary resulting in bodily injury.

New Albany Police responded to Knobs Pointe Apartments on May 16, where a woman said her apartment had been broken into and that her husband was assaulted, according to a probable-cause affidavit.

The man told police that he was asleep in the apartment when he heard a loud noise coming from the front door. He said he went into the living room and saw four men standing there. He said he yelled for them to get out before being attacked by all four. He said as they were hitting him, one of them yelled out “this is for my Mustang.”

The man who lived in the apartment said a Ford Mustang had been vandalized at the apartment complex earlier but that he had nothing to do with it. Police noticed numerous bruises and scratches on the man’s chest, face and back. According to the affidavit, the man had bloodshot eyes as a result of being assaulted.

The victim’s wife said she had been harassed by four males in the complex who have been making sexual comments about her when she goes outside.

The victim was able to recognize three of the four suspects from police mugshots, including Terry, who lives in the complex. He is being held in the Floyd County Jail on a $200,000 court cash or surety bond.
