Dog attack leaves another dead, woman injured

Police: No charges pending

NEW ALBANY — A woman was injured and her dog killed after being attacked by another dog at about 9 p.m. Sunday near East Seventh and Main streets in New Albany.

The 59-year-old woman was walking her Yorkie when a pit bull got out of its yard and attacked the woman’s dog. As she tried to separate the two, her wrist and arm were injured, according to Maj. Keith Whitlow with the New Albany Police Department.

The woman was taken to Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services. New Albany-Floyd County Animal Control took control of the dog.

Theresa Stilger with the NA-FC Animal Shelter said the owner has relinquished ownership of the dog to the shelter. She said in all animal bite cases, the animal is quarantined for 10 days, no matter the circumstances and even if it is up to date on its vaccinations.

Whitlow said no charges are pending at this time.
