St. Mary’s Academy open house

St. Mary’s Catholic Academy and Cougar Academy, 420 E. 8th St., New Albany, will hold an open house for interested new families from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27.

The school invites parents and students of all faiths to tour the classrooms and visit with teachers, students and staff. The school educates students from grades pre-school through eighth grade.

Clark County

Relay for Life events set

Clark County Relay For Life will be May 17, at Charlestown High School, 1 Pirate Place, Charlestown. The survivor lap will begin at 7 p.m.

Relay Team Rally meetings will be at 6 p.m. at Jeffersonville Township Public Library, Large Conference Room, 211 E. Court Ave., Jeffersonville.

Meeting dates are: Tuesday, Jan. 8, Tuesday, Feb. 12, Tuesday, March 12, Tuesday, April 9.


Optimists hosting Tri-Star competition

The Optimist Club of Clarksville will host its annual Tri-Star basketball competition at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at the Clarksville Middle School gymnasium, 101 Ettels Lane, in Clarksville.

The three-event competition is free for girls and boys ages 8 to 13. Students will compete in free-throw shooting, dribbling and passing. A parent or guardian must register their child at the event. Parents are encouraged to stay and watch their “stars” compete. Please note: Optimist guidelines do not allow for participation in more than one local Tri-Star competition per year.

Moore available to visit neighborhoods

Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore is reminding residents he will once again be availble in the new year to visit with them at their neighborhood’s meetings.

“We need to get the word out because many of our residents are still not aware that I am available to attend these meetings,” Moore said in a press release. “In 2012, I was able to meet with residents of more than 20 of our neighborhoods. I want to continue to keep the lines of communication open and get even more people involved in 2013."

The neighborhood meetings allow residents of the city to discuss issues, ask questions or find out more information about the issues important to their part of the city, the release said.

Christian Academy hosting homecoming

On Saturday, Jan. 5, the Christian Academy of Indiana Warriors will host alumni events, starting at 1 p.m.

Events for the day will include an alumni game at 1 p.m., recognition of the homecoming court at 7:15 p.m., along with recognition of the ’98 and ’99 regional championship teams during halftime of the boys varsity game, and an alumni hospitality reception from 6 to 8 p.m. during the varsity girls and boys basketballs games against Christian Academy of Louisville.

“We are excited to be hosting our annual alumni game along with our homecoming game against Christian Academy of Louisville,” says Steve Kerberg, varsity boys basketball coach and Graceland Christian School graduate, in a news release. “We desire to have a strong connection between our past alumni and our athletic programs. We want to extend an invitation to all of our alumni for this special day.”

Hosparus seeks volunteers

Hosparus Southern Indiana needs patient care volunteers who live in Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Harrison, Scott and Washington counties. Hosparus will offer free volunteer training, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 26 (lunch is provided) at its New Albany office, 624 E. Market Street. Volunteers help with patient and family support, administrative duties and development/fundraising. Hosparus carefully selects volunteers and provides them with comprehensive training specially designed to meet the needs of patients and families. Hosparus volunteers must have available transportation and complete training and an application process.

Mount St. Frances offering Women’s Retreat

Women’s Retreat, “Women of the Scriptures – Revelations of God, ” is planned for Jan. 25 and Jan. 26 at Mount St. Francis Center, 101 St. Anthony Drive, Mount St. Frances.
