IN FASHION: Dress in your favorite time period style to celebrate New Albany bicentennial

Dinner, dance coming Jan. 26

NEW ALBANY — It’s a night to celebrate New Albany’s bicentennial with a spin.

“New Albany Loves You through the Decades” dinner and dance gala will be held Jan. 26 at The Grand. Those who attend are invited to dress in their favorite era style of clothing.

“There’s so many events like this, we just wanted to do something with a little twist to make it more fun,” said Michelle Kristiansen, a member of Develop New Albany who helped plan the event and the branch manager of the downtown MainSource Bank location.

Develop New Albany is sponsoring the gala, and with help from donors such as the Horseshoe Foundation of Floyd County, is offering a dinner catered by The Grand and a night of entertainment for $50 per person.

“This is not a money maker for anybody, and it’s pretty affordable,” Kristiansen said.

Develop New Albany was planning on hosting a ball, but learned that the New Albany Bicentennial Commission was also planning a gala and decided to partner with the group, she said.

The organization wanted to contribute to recognizing New Albany’s 200th anniversary as well, she continued.

“We’ve got a lot of rich history and Develop New Albany is all about downtown and businesses and bringing people down here to revitalize and make it a destination place for people to go,” Kristiansen said. “Now is the time to celebrate it.”

The Jamey Aebersold Band will play during the cocktail hour of the gala, which begins at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m., and live entertainment will follow including a musical performance by Lindsay Lane and Axis.

Tickets for the event must be purchased by Jan. 18. They can be purchased online by visiting the website www.developna.org, or in person from Kristiansen at MainSource Bank’s 100 E. Spring St. location.
