Ministry, church camping for the homeless

Park Memorial United Methodist Church and Exit 0 will be hosting a “Cardboard City” at the church this weekend in order to raise awareness of homelessness and funds for programs to serve the homeless.

Participating youth and adults will bring no more than what will fit in a backpack and stay in the camp two nights to get insight into the experience of being homeless. Participants each raised a minimum of $50 or $75 per family which Exit 0 will use to provide food and other services to those living on the streets.

“Exit 0 is doing this to raise awareness of the issues that the homeless face, the challenges of daily tasks like using the bathroom, taking showers, doing laundry. We will be doing camp clean-ups and hearing people in the camps talk about the problems they face such as not having an ID which leads to not being able to work and so on. We hope it will dispel some of the myths of homelessness,” said Paul Stensrud, Exit 0 director, in a news release.

Park Memorial UMC is located at 1820 E. Park Place in Jeffersonville. The event began at 4 p.m. Friday and continues through Sunday. For more information, please contact Paul Stensrud at 502-541-2353 or via email at paul@jesuscaresatexit0.org
