Jeffersonville Fire Department responds to fire at industrial plant

There were no injuries at Pfau Oil

JEFFERSONVILLE — The Jeffersonville Fire Department responded to a noninjury fire at a downtown Jeffersonville business Friday afternoon.

The fire took place on the property of George Pfau’s Sons Co. Inc., located along Eighth Street between Wall and Walnut streets, which produces animal oils for industrial uses.

Soon after the fire was extinguished, Jeffersonville Fire Chief Eric Hedrick said that information was still being gathered by fire officials. He said a fire marshal was on the scene, and the cause had not yet been determined.

The fire took place in a storage facility on the property, and contents in the room ignited, Hedrick said.

“We believe at this time that no hazardous materials were involved,” he said. “The building itself is just concrete and steel, so there was not a lot to burn.”

The fire call came in at 2:21 p.m. and the firefighters had the fire under control 10 minutes later. A JFD fire station is just across the street.

“It was a good response time,” he said. “The guys got on it pretty quick.”
