Three players from the highly successful New Albany baseball team each earned a spot on the 2009 All-Hoosier Hills Conference team.
Those three Bulldogs were recent graduates Phil Forbis and Graham Brown and junior Sean Godfrey.
Forbis, a pitcher and third baseman, compiled a perfect 10-0 record with a 1.31 earned-run average on the mound this past season. He had 91 strikeouts in 64 innings. At the plate, Forbis led New Albany with a .449 batting average along with 29 RBIs.
Godfrey and Brown were among the Bulldogs’ top hitters as well, as they entered last month’s Class 4A regional with batting averages of .418 and .368, respectively. Bulldog head coach Chris McIntyre was named HHC Coach of the Year.
The three players helped New Albany win the HHC Tournament and the Class 4A Seymour Sectional in 2009.
HHC and sectional runner-up Jeffersonville had four players on the squad. The quartet consisted of recent graduates Cody Poole and Neil Fertig, junior pitcher Hunter Tipton and sophomore pitcher Jeremy Eger.
A pair of Floyd Central pitchers made the squad in senior Cory Wade and junior Jeffrey Thompson. Area players receiving honorable-mention votes were the Red Devils’ Sam Burke, Floyd’s Eric Schmitt and New Albany’s Jacob Jones.

THREE AREA PLAYERS TO PLAY IN ALL-STAR SERIES
Forbis, Poole and recent Henryville graduate Kenny Harrell will play for the South squad in the 35th annual Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Series on Friday and Saturday.
The three-game series will start on Friday with a doubleheader between the North and South teams at the University of Evansville’s Braun Stadium. Game 3 will be at Bosse Field in Evansville on Saturday, as it will be a wooden-bat contest.
Forbis, Poole and Harrell were honorable-mention selections on the 2009 IHSBCA All-State teams.
Forbis is the third New Albany player in the last three seasons to be named to the South squad. Current University of Louisville player Drew Haynes played for the South in 2007, and Jason Cruse was on the team in 2008.
