H.S. WRESTLING: Red Devils finish fifth at Capitol City Classic

Jeff’s Jolley-Little captures 285-pound crown

INDIANAPOLIS — The Jeffersonville wrestling team started its season last Saturday by finishing fifth in the Capitol City Classic.

Gavan Jolley-Little was the only Red Devil to win an individual championship, as he took home the 285-pound title with a 3-0 record. Teammate Chase Thompson finished second at 195 pounds with a 2-1 mark.

Earning fourth-place finishes for Jeff were Stevie Jones at 113, Freddie Hudson at 145 and Geary Gaines at 220. All three finished 2-2.

The tournament featured a formidable field that included three-time defending state champion Perry Meridian and eighth-ranked Warren Central.

“I believe the kids wrestled to the best of their ability at this point in the season,” Red Devils’ coach Danny Struck said. “When you wrestle teams like Perry and Warren right out of the gate, even though the competition on our schedule is always good, we always seem prepared and never surprised.”

The Red Devils will compete in the Hoosier Hills Conference Duals Dec. 6-7.
