WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Cureton, Dye lead Grenadiers to 80-60 win over Midway

IUS outscores Eagles 46-33, shoots 52 percent in second half

NEW ALBANY — Megan Cureton and Mary Dye each had 14 points as IU Southeast pulled away from Midway College in the second half for a 80-60 win on Saturday.

The Grenadiers (8-6, 4-1 KIAC) led 34-14 with 4:34 in the first half to play but were held scoreless the rest of the half as Midway went on a 13-0 run to trial 34-27 at the break.

IU Southeast responded in the second half, outscoring the Eagles 46-33 on 52 percent shooting from the field.

With the Grenadiers leading 48-40 with 13:27 to play, Bridgette Jones hit 3-point field goals on two of the next three possessions to put the game out of reach at 56-40. She finished with nine points.

Cureton had seven rebounds to go along with her 14 ponits, while Dye added four rebounds. Heather Wheat had 13 points and seven assists for IU Southeast.

Me’Lisa Martinez had 17 points to lead the Eagles, who dropped to 4-10 overall and 1-3 in KIAC play.

IU Southeast hosts Asbury on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
