H.S. ROUNDUP: Goad’s career night gives Pioneers 42-21 victory

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — Grant Goad helped Providence hand Madison Shawe its ninth straight loss, 42-21 on Saturday.

Goad posted a double-double scoring 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Grant’s 21 points was a team-high, a game-high and a personal best.

Providence started slow, allowing The Hilltoppers to get an early 6-4 lead.

“We got off to a rough start,” said Providence coach Lou Lefevre.

In the second quarter, Goad took over by scoring 10 of Providence’s 17 points. The outbreak — along with a stingy defense that only allowed two points — saw Providence take a 21-8 lead to the half.

“We turned the game around in the second,” Lefevre said. “With an 18-8 lead, Juston Betz hit a 3 at the buzzer before the half and that broke the game open. We were able to get a comfortable lead and gradually extended it.”

Goad was one of 10 Pioneers to score in the winning effort.

The 7-2 Pioneers’ will next be in action as they visit Jeffersonville (6-4) next Saturday.
