HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Dragons finish regular season by sweeping Henryville

New Albany prevails in four sets at Heritage Hills

HENRYVILLE — The Silver Creek volleyball team closed out the regular season on Thursday night with a 25-11, 25-5, 25-17 victory at West Clark rival Henryville.

Senior Haley Garr paced the Dragons with 13 kills and five service aces. Teammate Danni Densford chipped in six kills, while Silver Creek senior Sammi Smith dished out 13 assists and five kills. Dragon libero Alex Carlton made 10 digs.

“It was another great team effort,” Silver Creek coach Jeff Zimmerman said. “The coaching staff is very pleased with the direction we are headed as we move into sectional week.”

NEXT: Silver Creek vs. North Harrison, Class 3A Corydon Central Sectional first round, Tuesday; Henryville vs. Clarksville, Class 2A Henryville Sectional first round, next Thursday.

• Bulldogs defeat Heritage Hills: New Albany ended its regular season on a high note on Thursday, beating host Heritage Hills 23-25, 25-17, 25-20, 25-19.

Junior Nicole Jones led the Bulldogs with 20 kills, while teammate Alexis Lete had 16 kills and three blocks. Also for New Albany, sophomore Brook McCoy delivered 10 kills and 10 digs, McKenzie Prince distributed 49 assists, Samantha Miszkiel made 19 digs and Sara Schad had 17 digs.

“I thought Nicole Jones played extremely well tonight. The kids played well and filled some positions nicely,” Bulldogs’ coach John Breeding said.

NEXT: New Albany (20-11) vs. Seymour, Class 4A Seymour Sectional first round, next Thursday.

• Generals win on Senior Night: Junior Ali Sparkman had 16 digs, 15 kills and six blocks to lead host Clarksville to a Senior Night win over Scottsburg, 20-25, 25-15, 16-25, 25-13, 15-11. Also for the Generals, Katey Duggan had nine kills, Hannah Elder dished out 22 assists and Kristen McNew made five aces.

“Everybody on our team stepped up,” Clarksville coach John McEwen said.

NEXT: Clarksville (6-20, 1-9 Mid-Southern Conference) vs. Henryville, Class 2A Henryville Sectional first round, next Thursday.

• Warriors down Southwestern: Rachel and Krista Boesing each had 18 kills and six blocks to lead Christian Academy to a 22-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-13 victory on Thursday at Southwestern. Teammate Alex Falcone dished out 46 assists.

“We played well together as a team,” Christian Academy coach Walter Pauly said. “Our passing was on, so we were able to run our offense.”

NEXT: Christian Academy (21-5) vs. Rock Creek Academy, Class A Christian Academy Sectional first round, next Thursday.

• Mustangs beat South Central: Visiting New Washington concluded its regular season on Thursday with a 25-19, 25-13, 25-8 win at South Central. Caroline Ricks led the Mustangs with 15 kills, nine digs, nine aces and five blocks. Teammate Courtney Amick dished out 18 assists.

NEXT: New Washington (19-9) vs. South Central, Class A Christian Academy Sectional semifinal, Saturday, Oct. 20.
