YOUTH BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL: Two Floyds Knobs teams win district titles

FKCC 10U softball gets solid pitching in collecting crown

FLOYDS KNOBS — A pair of teams from the Floyds Knobs Community Club baseball and softball leagues recently won Babe Ruth district tournament championships.

The Floyds Knobs 10U softball team won its district tournament with a 3-2 victory over Lanesville in the championship game. Erica Endris supplied Floyds Knobs the district title in the title contest with the game-winning hit in the bottom of the sixth inning with two out.

Endris went 7-for-10 for the tournament with an on-base percentage of .857. She was 2-for-3 in the tourney final against Lanesville.

Floyds Knobs got solid pitching from Grace Smith and Sarah Payton. Smith recorded 28 strikeouts in the three games she pitched. She struck out 10 Lanesville batters in the championship game.

In two district tournament appearances, Payton fanned 18 batters. She had 10 strikeouts in the winners’ bracket championship game.

During the tourney, Floyds Knobs scored 74 runs and allowed just 11.

The Floyds Knobs 8U baseball team captured its district title with a 5-3 win over the Corydon 8U squad in the tournament final in Henryville.

Floyds Knobs finished 6-0 in the tourney. Its other five victories were against North Harrison, New Washington, Scott County and Corydon 7U, which lost twice to Floyds Knobs.

For the tourney, Floyds Knobs scored 94 runs and yielded only 20. It had a team batting average of .652, which included 44 extra-base hits. Floyds Knobs only struck out once during the tournament.

Floyds Knobs smacked four home runs. Collecting the homers were Mason Moravec, Jack Palmer, Maverick Potts and Rollin Shiner.

The Floyds Knobs 8U team will play in the state tournament July 10-13 in Lanesville.
