BABE RUTH WORLD SERIES: Floyds Knobs still alive at World Series

All-Stars split on Saturday and on Sunday

ALACHUA, Fla. — Floyds Knobs 12-and-under Babe Ruth softball team fell into the elimination bracket with a 10-0 loss to Gilchrist, Fla., early Sunday morning but recovered to stay alive with a 4-1 win over Gainesville, Fla., in the afternoon.

Brooke Smith had two of Floyds Knobs seven hits in the victory and drove home a run. Cassie Thomerson, Sarah Hensley and JazzyShireman each had a doube.

Abby Letson and Thomerson combined to hold Gainesville to one run on three hits. The Southern Indiana All-Stars also took advantage of six Gainesville errors in the victory.

Floyds Knobs continues its tournament at 8:30 this morning and, if it is able to survive, could play two more games on Monday.

SATURDAY

After beating Creeks, Fla., 4-2 on Saturday morning, Santa Fe, Fla., scored three runs in the first three innings and handed Flodys Knobs its first loss in the 12-and-under Babe Ruth World Series, 3-2 on Saturday.

In the win over Creeks, Thomerson had three singles and Taryn Weddle hit a double and a single.

Letson and Thomerson combined to hold Creeks to two runs on two hits.

In the loss to Santa Fe, Floyds Knobs out-hit its opponent 9-4 but Santa Fe made the most of its four hits. Alexis McCullough and Gillian Coffey had two hits apiece for the Southern Indiana stars.

Floyds Knobs finished pool play at 3-1.
