TEN TO WATCH: Warren’s Devils have already equaled last year’s win total

Defending champion Braves get first big test

(Continued)

HENRYVILLE — FRIDAY

BOYS — CHARLESTOWN (1-4) AT SILVER CREEK (5-1)

• TOURNAMENT: Silver Creek Holiday Tournament.

• TIME: 6 p.m.

• LAST 10 YEARS: Silver Creek 10-7.

• EARLIER MEETING: Nov. 30 — At Silver Creek 60, Charlestown 32.

• ANALYSIS: With the homecourt advantage, the Dragons should ease into the championship game.

• THE PICK: Silver Creek 58, Charlestown 39.

GIRLS — JEFFERSONVILLE (7-2) VS. BLOOMINGTON SOUTH (9-1)

• TOURNAMENT: Floyd Central Shootout.

• TIME: 11 a.m.

• RANKINGS: Bloomington South — Class 4A No. 10 ICGSA, No. 15 IBCA.

• LAST 10 YEARS: Jeffersonville 1-0.

• LAST MEETING: Jeffersonville 41, Bloomington South 38 in overtime (2009 Bedford North Lawrence Regional first round).

• ANALYSIS: It would be stunning if the Red Devils play their way into Saturday’s championship game, but at this point, it would be a mistake to put it past them.

• THE PICK: Bloomington South 53, Jeffersonville 47.

GIRLS — SILVER CREEK (2-5) VS. COLUMBUS EAST (3-4)

• TOURNAMENT: Rumble on the River.

• LOCATION: Southwestern (Hanover).

• TIME: 2 p.m.

• LAST 10 YEARS: No meetings.

• ANALYSIS: Silver Creek’s tough schedule continues in this tough tournament field, starting with an East team that has won 3 of 4 since opening 0-3. The Dragons should get at least one win at Hanover. Any more than that has to be considered success for such a young team.

• THE PICK: Columbus East 62, Silver Creek 46.

GIRLS — EASTERN (6-2) VS. WEST WASHINGTON (6-1)

• TOURNAMENT: Washington County Invitational.

• LOCATION: Henryville.

• TIME: 6 p.m.

• RANKINGS: Eastern — Class 2A No. 15 ICGSA;

• LAST 10 YEARS: Eastern 12-1 (West Washington’s win on Dec. 12 ended Eastern’s 14-game winning streak in the series).

• EARLIER MEETING: Dec. 12 — West Washington 46, at Eastern 43.

• ANALYSIS: The Musketeers get a chance to avenge one of their two losses to this point. The Senators are a surprise team so far, but if Eastern wants to be considered a serious sectional contender, it needs to prove it can beat teams with inferior talent.

• THE PICK: Eastern 55, West Washington 50.

SATURDAY

BOYS — SILVER CREEK HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT, CHAMPIONSHIP

• TIME: 7:30 p.m.

• RANKINGS: Providence — Class 2A No. 6 AP; Clarksville — Class 2A No. 7 AP.

• LAST 10 CHAMPIONS: 2012 — Providence; 2011 — Clarksville; 2010 — Providence; 2009 —Silver Creek; 2008 — Providence; 2007 — Charlestown; 2006 — Providence; 2005 — Providence; 2004 — Providence; 2003 — Silver Creek.

• LAST YEAR: First round — Clarksville 45, Silver Creek 42; Providence 46, Charlestown 38; Consolation — Charlestown 70, Silver Creek 63 (OT); Championship — Providence 38, Clarksville 36.

• ANALYSIS: The top three teams — Clarksville, Providence and the host Dragons — all appear to be about even. The smart pick is Silver Creek because the Dragons are the most likely team to make the championship game. Still, it’s tough at this point to go against a veteran Clarksville squad.

• THE PICK: Clarksville 77, Silver Creek 72.
