H.S. ROUNDUP: Bulldogs extend win streak with 14-0 win

Allen’s heroics send Eastern past Wolfpack; Pirates sweep Southwestern

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — New Albany won its ninth straight game heading into the Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament with a five-inning, 14-0 win over Scottsburg on Saturday.

The second game was rained out.

Tucker Marcum went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and Logan Striegel was 2 for 2 with five runs knocked home. Garrett Sherrell and Jack Shine had two RBIs apiece for New Albany.

Tanner Goller got the win after giving up just one hit and striking out two.

New Albany hosts 21-0 and top-ranked Floyd Central in the opening round of the HHC today at 7 p.m. The Highlanders beat the Bulldogs 10-5 on April 10 at Mt. Tabor.

• Allen leads Musketeers past Crawford: Jason Allen hit a solo home run to tie Crawford County at 1-1 in the third then hit a walkoff RBI single in Eastern’s 2-1 victory on Saturday.

A hit batter, an intentional walk after a Brayton Brading sacrifice bunt and a walk to Austin Roberts loaded the bases for Allen in the bottom of the seventh.

Allen then hit a pitch up the middle to end the contest. Dustyn Miller got the win as the Wolfpack managed just four hits.

NEXT: Eastern hosts New Washington, Tuesday.

• Pirates sweep Southwestern: Charlestown committed 10 errors in Saturday’s ugly conditions during a doubleheader against Southwestern, but the Pirates’ bats wouldn’t let them lose.

Charlestown scored 26 runs on 23 hits as it beat the Rebels 11-1 and 15-7.

“Though it was a sloppy day and we didn’t play very good defense, we swung the bats real well, especially in the second game,” Charlestown manager Ricky Romans siad. “Our pitching did a great job of pitching to contact.”

In the opener, Colin Martin pitched all five innings, giving up just three hits, in the opener. He was also 2 for 3 at the plate. In Game 2, Tyler Willnger went 3 for 3 with two doubles and a triple. Ryan Jones was 3 for 4 with four runs and four RBIs.
