Jeff to host golf scramble, banquet

The Jeffersonville High School boys’ basketball team will host its golf scramble and banquet on Sunday, May 19 at the Jeffersonville Elks Club golf course, 1820 Charlestown Pike, Jeffersonville.

The golf scramble will have two flights. One flight will start at 8 a.m. and the other one will begin at 1 p.m. The banquet will began at approximately 7 p.m.

Entry fees are $240 per team and $60 per individual. The fee includes 18 holes of golf, a cart and dinner at the banquet dinner. Checks must be made payable to Jeff Boys’ Basketball Boosters.

Golfers are asked to sign up by teams. Individuals who register will be assigned to a team.

JHS holding scramble

The Jeffersonville High School girls’ basketball team will hold a golf scramble fundraiser on Sunday, April 28 at Hidden Creek Golf Club in Sellersburg. The shotgun start is at 2 p.m. with registration from 1-1:45 p.m.

Cost per player is $75 or $300 for a team. Hole sponsorships are being sold for $100. Checks should be made payable to Jeff Girls Basketball Boosters and mailed to 3013 McArthur Way, Jeffersonville, IN, 47130.

New Albany AD to receive award

New Albany High School athletic director Don Unruh will receive the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Administrator of the Year award for District 3 on Friday, April 26 during an IBCA Annual Spring Clinic in Indianapolis.

Unruh has been the athletic director at New Albany for 14 years. He is an active member of the Indiana Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association and was named IIAAA District 5 Athletic Administrator of the Year in 2007 and again in 2012. He has also been a member of the Indiana Department of Education’s IHSAA Case Review Panel.

While at New Albany, Unruh has overseen several athletic facility building projects, served as host for numerous IHSAA tournament events, chaired school improvement plan committees and served as New Albany High School interim principal for the 2009-10 school year.

He co-chaired the New Albany-Floyd County School Corporation’s Joint Athletic Committee, which coordinated the athletic programs for 13 elementary and three middle schools.

Unruh served as New Albany boys’ varsity basketball coach from 1995-98. As head coach of the Bulldogs, he took his 1996 team to the IHSAA State Finals, finishing as state runner-up, and his 1997 team advanced to the semistate final. He is a former member of the IBCA.

Prior to his 26-year tenure at New Albany, Unruh taught and coached at Springs Valley High School in French Lick and served as varsity basketball coach at Hancock County High School in Kentucky.

Unruh and his wife, Denise, have been married for 30 years and have two adult daughters, Lindsay and Sarah.
