Braun, Daniel led Charlestown boys to another victory; New Wash girls on verge of SAC crown

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — A week after by edged by Floyd Central for the Hoosier Hills Conference title, New Albany paid back the Highlanders with a 94-92 victory.

The win allowed the Bulldogs to finish the regular season with an 11-0 dual meet mark. It could also them momentum over the five-time defending sectional champion Highlanders at the Feb. 2 Floyd Central Sectional.

Hannah Manger and Rachel Klein each won four times for New Albany, but it was Lauren McCool who was the hero.

McCool beat out Layah Jones by .13 seconds for second place in the 200-yard individual medley and later edged Sarah Taylor by 1.51 seconds in the 500 freestyle for second place. Had those results flipped, Floyd would have continued its domination of its rival.

Meg Taylor won the 100 and 200 freestyle for the Highlanders and also teamed with Jones, Sarah Taylor and Amy McCormick to win the 400 relay.

In the boys’ race, the Highlanders swept the top three positions in the 200 freestyle, the 200 IM and the 500 free. They also took the top two spots in both free relays to capture a 129-53 victory over New Albany.

Luke Lete won twice for the Bulldogs, touching the wall first in the 50 free and the 100 backstroke. Bryce Noonan won the diving competition with Noah Boone taking third for New Albany.
