GREG'S PICKS: Tourney time: The ‘second season’ begins tonight for the girls

Jeff, FC square off in first round of NA Sectional

(Continued)

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — CLASS 3A SCOTTSBURG SECTIONAL

TUESDAY

Corydon Central (16-5) vs. North Harrison (7-13)

• Time: 7 p.m.

• Series last 10 years: Corydon 9-4.

• Regular-season matchup: Corydon 53, at North Harrison 49.

• Analysis: I think the “Throw away the records when rivals get together” saying is generally hogwash. However, the Cats nearly beat Corydon earlier this season. They led a good portion of the game. I won’t say this is a tossup. But with Missy Voyles on the Cats’ bench, a North Harrison upset wouldn’t shock me.

• Greg’s Pick: Corydon Central 55, North Harrison 49.

WEDNESDAY

Salem (7-13) at Scottsburg (13-7)

• Time: 6 p.m.

• Series last 10 years: Scottsburg 9-2.

• Regular-season matchup: At Scottsburg 67, Salem 47.

• Analysis: After starting 3-0 and 5-2, Salem won once in 11 games from Nov. 30 to Jan. 24. A 55-43 win at Hauser should help the Lions’ confidence. But even without injured Warriorette Jillian Romero, Salem probably will fall short at Scottsburg.

• Greg’s Pick: Scottsburg 59, Salem 43.

Silver Creek (15-6) vs. Charlestown (10-10)

• Time: Approximately 7:30 p.m.

• Series last 10 years: Silver Creek 10-9.

• Regular-season matchups: Silver Creek 47, Charlestown 46 (conference); Silver Creek 33, Charlestown 32 (holiday tournament).

• Analysis: Silver Creek has two one-point wins over Charlestown. Will the third time be the charm for the Pirates? This is easily the best game of the first round. Both teams are playing so well. The Dragons closed the regular season with four straight wins. The Pirates had won three straight and seven of eight before losing to Madison on Friday. Something tells me it’s Creek’s year again. Either way, the winner of this game has an excellent shot at winning the sectional crown.

• Greg’s Pick: Silver Creek 53, Charlestown 52.

CLASS 2A PAOLI SECTIONAL

TUESDAY

Clarksville (4-18) at Paoli (18-1)

• Time: 6 p.m.

• Rankings: Paoli, No. 4 ICGSA.

• Series last 10 years: Paoli 2-1.

• Regular-season matchup: Did Not Play.

• Last meeting: Paoli 70, Clarksville 30 (2010 sectional).

• Analysis: It may be hard to see with a 4-18 record, but the Clarksville program made serious strides in the second season under B.D. Ledbetter. That said, this game won’t be close.

• Greg’s Pick: Paoli 68, Clarksville 27.
