GREG'S PICKS: Tourney time: The ‘second season’ begins tonight for the girls

Jeff, FC square off in first round of NA Sectional

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — Crawford County (0-21) vs. Henryville (13-9)

• Time: Approximately 7:30 p.m.

• Series last 10 years: Henryville 1-0.

• Regular-season matchup: Henryville 59, at Crawford County 36.

• Analysis: The Hornets just beat Crawford by 23 points in Marengo four days ago. There’s no reason to believe Henryville won’t continue its impressive season on Friday.

• Greg’s Pick: Henryville 47, Crawford County 34.

Christian Academy (5-13) vs. South Central (6-14)

• Time: 6 p.m.

• Series last 10 years: South Central 3-0.

• Regular-season matchup: At South Central 51, Christian Academy 41.

• Analysis: South Central is 6-14 and was beaten by a combined 42 points against sectional favorites New Washington and Borden. But something tells me the Rebels will show up big in this sectional. Maybe I’m living in the past, but Randall Schoen is a great coach and the Rebels have a nice path to the championship game.

• Greg’s Pick: South Central 49, Christian Academy 38.

Borden (13-6) at New Washington (17-2)

• Time: Approximately 7:30 p.m.

• Rankings: New Wash No. 8 ICGSA.

• Series last 10 years: New Washington 11-4.

• Regular-season matchup: At New Washington 49, Borden 46.

• Analysis: New Wash has a shot at going a long way in this tournament. Its toughest hurdle may be getting past its first game. Borden is good, it’s hot and it has an elite coach in Terry Rademacher. Like it was in the regular-season matchup in New Wash, this game will be close.

• Greg’s Pick: New Washington 56, Borden 50.

Abby Ellis, Borden

Ellis scored 31 points in the Braves’ final two regular-season games, their fifth and sixth straight victories that helped Borden finish the regular season 13-6. Ellis scored a team-high 14 points, including a 3-pointer, in the Braves’ 69-33 victory over Clarksville on Tuesday. She followed that performance with 17 points — and another 3 — in Borden’s 52-44 victory over Springs Valley in the Braves’ regular-season finale.

Last Week’s Stars

• Kaitlynn Henning, Charlestown: Game-high 21 points in the Pirates’ 61-43 win over North Harrison on Tuesday; team-high 18 points in Friday’s 60-45 loss to Madison.

• Haley Huddleston, Henryville: 14 points in Thursday’s 59-36 win over Crawford County.

• Nichole Midgett, Jeffersonville: 14 points on 6-of-14 shooting, including a pair of 3-pointers, in the Devils’ 35-19 win over Providence.

• Madison Kaiser, Floyd Central: 20 points in the HIghlanders’ 79-65 loss to Columbus East on Tuesday.

• Lauren Camm, New Albany: 10 points and five rebounds in the Bulldogs’ 55-24 loss to New Washington on Tuesday.
