H.S. FOOTBALL: Eastern can't solve Panther D in 35-0 loss

Panthers improve to 5-0 with MSC victory

PEKIN — Corydon Central’s offense slowly got untracked while its defense was as stifling as it has been all season in Friday’s 35-0 win over Eastern in Pekin.

The Panthers, who have now allowed just 33 points in five games during their 5-0 start, held the Musketeers to 141 yards on the ground and 65 through the air while earning their first shutout of the year.

On offense, junior Josh Allen carried the ball seven times for 74 yards and a pair of scores for Corydon. Alex Newton, who had 99 yards on the ground, and Ben Woodward also scored rushing touchdowns for the Panthers. Lannis Buck completed both of his passes for 28 yards, including a 2-yard TD pass to Cody Catlett.

Coty Estes led the Eastern offense with 76 total yards. He had 32 yards rushing on 11 carries and caught a pair of Austin Roberts passes for 44 yards. Roberts completed 6 of 10 passes for 65 yards.

Scott Ames led the Musketeers in rushing with 36 yards on eight carries.

Eastern, which is now 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the Mid-Southern Conference, will stay at home next Friday when it hosts North Harrison. The Cougars are 1-4 overall and 0-4 in the MSC after a 28-0 loss to Brownstown Central on Friday.

Corydon Central (5-0, 4-0) will host Paoli in a non-conference game next Friday. The Rams are 3-2 after Friday’s 31-7 win over West Washington.
