ARCA: Kimmel places 10th at Iowa

Clarksville native can break ARCA wins record at Salem

NEWTON, IOWA — Frank Kimmel will have a chance to set the all-time ARCA Racing Series wins record at his self-proclaimed hometown track, Salem Speedway, next Saturday.

That scenario was set up after Kimmel came up short of breaking the record this past Saturday at Iowa Speedway with a 10th-place finish in the Prairie Meadows 150. Next Saturday’s Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic at Salem will start at 7:15 p.m.

For the first time this season, Kimmel finished a lap down to the race winner, which was Alabama native Grant Enfinger. But the Clarksville native remains in first place in the ARCA point standings by 285 points over second-place Mason Mingus, who finished seventh at Iowa. It was Kimmel’s 28th straight top-10 finish.

Sellersburg resident Will Kimmel, Frank Kimmel’s nephew, had a solid night at Salem. The younger Kimmel placed ninth and was the last car on the lead lap. Will Kimmel posted his sixth top-10 finish of the season and is currently ninth in the ARCA standings.

Kyle Weatherman was second, followed by Chad Boat, Corey LaJoie and Kyle Benjamin. Henryville resident Darrell Basham ended up 22nd.
