H.S. FOOTBALL: Musketeers come back to beat Crawford, 32-30

Arnold rushes for 86 yards, 3 scores in victory

PEKIN — Scot Ames scored on an 11-yard run with two minutes reminaing to give Eastern a 32-30 come-from-behind victory over Crawford County on Friday.

The win was the Musketeers’ first since a 55-22 triumph over Clarksville in Week 2.

Eastern (2-6) grabbed an early 7-0 lead on a 35-yard touchdown pass from Austin Roberts to Jordan Eberle. Brian Arnold’s first of three touchdown runs — this one from two yards out — gave the Musketeers a 14-0 lead and they still led 14-8 at the break.

Arnold made it 20-8 early in the third quarter on a 6-yard run. However, the Wolfpack scored 14 straight points to take a 22-20 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Arnold set up his third touchdown with a 30-yard run down to the 1. He gave Eastern the lead back on his 1-yard plunge, but Crawford County came back to take a 30-26 lead before Ames’ winning score in the waning moments.

Arnold finished with a team-high 86 yards as the Musketeers rushed for 205 as a team. Ames added 66 yards on the ground. Eberle ran for 30 yards and caught four of Roberts’ passes for a team-best 80 yards and a score. Roberts completed seven of his 14 pass attempts for 93 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Crawford County rushed for 292 yards on 41 carries.

The Musketeers close the regular season next Friday at Charlestown, which fell to 5-3 with a 49-12 loss to Providence on Friday.
