H.S. VOLLEYBALL: CAI wins back-to-back sectional crowns

Warriors top New Wash again for title

NEW ALBANY — Christian Academy took home its second straight sectional championship in dominating fashion Saturday night, handling New Washington in straight sets, 25-22, 25-14 and 25-18.

The Warriors will travel to Orleans on Tuesday for the one-game Class A regional. Christian Academy has never won a regional title and fell in four sets against Trinity Lutheran. Orleans beat Trinity in five sets on Saturday.

At CAI, junior Krista Boesing slammed home four of the team’s first seven points to set the tone early for the host Warriors. She would end up with 13 on the night.

“We were focused all week,” Warrior coach Walter Pauly said. “New Washington is a good team, we knew it was going to be a battle. We had to stay focused, our goal was to limit our errors, Alex Flacone did a great job distributing and we got big swings all around tonight.”

Falcone with 24 assists was the reason Boesing and Sierra Rayzor could swing so freely. Rayzor finished the night with eight kills, four blocks, and four service aces. Senior Emily Haworth chipped in with six kills, and two aces.

“Our service game has been good all year,” said Pauly. “Rayzor has a awful tough serve. Our goal wasn’t to stop [Caroline] Ricks, but to play our game, focus on our game.”

Ricks ended up with eight kills, five blocks, and three digs. Ashley Johnson had five blocks and two kills, and Courtney Amick had 12 assists and two digs. All three seniors gave a good effort in closing their Mustang careers, but the Warriors proved to be championship worthy.
