Providence selling state finals tickets

Providence High School will be selling tickets for Saturday’s IHSAA State Finals in the school’s main office and athletic office during school hours on Wednesday and Thursday and until noon on Friday.

Tickets are $10 each. All purchases through Providence will earn the school 50 cents per ticket. Maps and directions also will be available with the ticket purchase.

The Pioneers will play in the Class 2A state championship match at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Ball State University’s Worthen Arena in Muncie versus defending Class 2A state champion Wapahani.

C’town fan bus going to Brownstown on Friday

The Charlestown Pirate Pride Booster Club is providing free fan bus transportation for this Friday’s Class 3A Sectional 23 championship game at Brownstown Central High School.

Anyone interested in riding must sign up in advance in the CHS student services office before noon on Friday. Also, a signed permission form, available in the student services office as well as or at www.charlestownpiratepride.com, is required for any student riding the fan bus.

Game admission is $6 per person, which is to be paid at the gate upon arrival to the game. The bus will leave the south parking lot of Charlestown High School at 5 p.m. on Friday.

Those interested in a caravan to Brownstown on Friday with the bus should be at the CHS south parking lot before 5 p.m.

NA boys’ season tickets on sale

The New Albany High School athletic office is currently selling boys’ basketball season tickets for the 2012-13 season.

Adult tickets are $40. Senior citizen tickets (ages 60 and older) are $35 and student tickets are $20.

The Bulldogs’ first home game will be Saturday, Nov. 24 against Bloomington South. For more information, contact the athletic office at 812-542-8507.



New Wash ribeye steak dinner

The New Washington High School Girls’ and Boys’ Basketball Season Tip-Off ribeye steak dinner will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3 in the school’s cafeteria.

The dinner will consist of an eight-ounce ribeye steak, two sides, a drink and dessert.

Advance tickets are $10 per meal, while tickets at the door cost $12. There also will be a hot dog or steak kids meal available for $5. Advanced purchase of tickets is recommended. Carry out is available. Proceeds will benefit both Mustang basketball programs.

In addition, basketball apparel will be on sale and there will be a raffle.

Tickets are available in the New Washington High School main office. They also can be purchased by calling Dana Miles or New Washington athletic director John Hobson at the high school at 812-293-3368.

Area players compete in All-Star event

Five players from the Clark-Floyd area competed in the fifth annual Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association boys’ senior All-Star event last Saturday at DePauw University in Greencastle.

The five seniors were Floyd Central’s Justin Batliner, Alex Martin and Drew Hussung, Charlestown’s Chris Braun and Jeffersonville’s Jordy Rigsby.

Braun posted a 2-1 record in the event. He won his lone singles match against Ross Canada of Mt. Vernon (Posey), 10-5.

Braun went 1-1 in doubles action. He teamed up with Franklin Central’s Tyler Conrad to defeat Lafayette Central Catholic’s Matt Bouggy and Plymouth’s Gabe Vervynckt, 10-5. Braun and Rigsby lost to Indianapolis North Central’s Rudolph Frazier and Carmel’s Michael Makio, 10-2.

Braun posted 24-2 singles record, including 9-0 in Mid-Southern Conference play, and captured the Warren Central Invitational title. He also was named to the all-MSC team and the All-District squad and made the All-State honorable-mention list.

Results on the other area players were not reported at press time.
