> SOUTHERN INDIANA — New Albany picked up two solid wins in its split doubleheader Saturday in Evansville at famed Bosse Field.

New Albany started its day with a 12-1 beating of Class 2A No. 6 ranked Evansville Mater Del.  The Bulldogs capped it off by squeaking out a one-run victory over Evansville North, 9-8.

“Those were two really good teams,” Bulldog coach Chris McIntrye said. “Outside of the sixth inning in the North game, we played really well.”

In the first game, New Albany received a gem from ace Brandon Johnson, who was brilliant through six innings of work. He walked two and gave up one earned run on four hits while striking out 10.

With 19 hits against the Wildcats, many Bulldogs shined at the plate. Every starter in the lineup had at least one hit during the triumph.

In the second game, New Albany and North traded big innings throughout the contest, but New Albany struck last in the seventh to pull out the 9-8 victory.

Tanner Goller started the second game for New Albany, going five innings before being relieved by Nixon.

New Albany’s bats stayed hot for the second game and helped carry the Bulldogs to the win. Jack Shine continued his strong game by going 2-for-4. Brady Parr was 3-for-4 with two RBI. Joey Collins and Nixon both went 2-for-4 and Timmie Redford added two more hits to his afternoon going 2-for-3.
