Quakenbush named new girls' soccer coach at New Albany

Quakenbush named new coach at New Albany

The New Albany High School athletic department announced on Thursday that Tim Quakenbush has been hired as the Bulldogs’ new girls’ soccer coach. Quakenbush replaces Julie Deuser, who left New Albany to become an assistant women’s soccer coach at Hanover College.

Quakenbush has eight years of experience coaching club soccer with the Southern Indiana United Soccer Club and the Louisville Thoroughbreds Soccer Club.

“Tim has the energy, the experience and the vision to build on the success that our girls’ soccer team has had over the past few years,” New Albany athletic director Don Unruh said in a statement.

Charlestown to host camp

The Charlestown High School volleyball program will host a volleyball camp July 8-12 at the high school. The camp is open to girls entering grades 4-9.

The purpose of the camp is to teach the fundamentals of volleyball, which includes passing, setting, hitting and serving, as well as the basics of team play.

The session for girls entering grades 4-6 will be from 9-11 a.m. each day with a cost of $25. Girls entering grades 7-9 will attend the camp from noon-3 p.m. each day with a cost of $30.

New Albany to host camps

The New Albany High School volleyball program will host its elementary and middle school volleyball camps July 8-10 at The Doghouse. The elementary camp is open to boys and girls currently in grades K-4, while the middle school camp is accepting boys and girls currently in grades 5-8.

The elementary camp will meet each day from 9-11 a.m. The middle school camp will meet each day from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

New Albany High School coaching staff and players will teach campers the following skills: forearm pass, overhand pass, set, attack the ball, serve (underhand, topspin, floater and jump), defensive skills. There also will be a tournament at the end of the camp.

Each camper will receive a T-shirt and will get their picture in the News and Tribune with the group.
