H.S. ROUNDUP: Dragons win Silver Creek Invitational

Pirates take Charletown baseball invitational title

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — With two victories on Saturday, Silver Creek took home first place in the Silver Creek Invitational.

The Dragons first took on Henryville, and beat them 4-2. Silver Creek was led by pitcher Shayla Cravens who picked up her eighth win of the season. Cravens tossed all seven innings giving up just the two runs on five hits. She struck out seven while walking one batter. Cravens held the Hornets in check the entire game.

Henryville finally struck in the bottom half of the sixth with back-to-back solo home runs by Hannah Nunn and Emma Hendricks.

Cravens settled down and finished off the Hornets for Silver Creek’s 12th win of the year.

Baily Miller collected two hits for the Dragons including a double.

In the final game of the tournament saw Silver Creek and Clarksville battling for the championship.

The Dragon’s offense was explosive and with a five run inning they pushed past Clarksville 8-1, bringing home the invitational crown.

Six of the Dragon’s 10 hits came from three players. Shayla Cravens was 2-for-4 with two double and a RBI. Olivia Scarbrough also had two hits with a double and Heather Knight picked up two hits along with her 2 RBI. Cravens also came in and pitched three innings of relief giving up no hits while striking out seven. Mackenzie Bush picked up the victory for the Dragons going four innings allowing four hits and the solo run. She struck out three and didn’t walk any.  

Silver Creek improves to 13-8, and will host Salem for a game on Monday. Clarksville will also play on Monday and it hosts Lanesville.
