H.S. FOOTBALL: Musketeers get Cougars’ Best in 34-7 loss

North Harrison rushes for 415 yards, led by Best’s 195, 3 TDs

PEKIN — Sam Best rushed for 195 yards and three touchdowns to lead North Harrison to a 34-7 victory over Eastern and its first Mid-Southern Conference victory.

North Harrison (2-4, 1-4 MSC) had 415 yards on the ground as Austin Nevil joined Best over the century mark with 104 yards on just seven carries and a touchdown.

Best scored the first three touchdowns on the contest — from 14, 43 and 11 yards out — to give the Cougars a 21-0 lead at the half.

Brandon Craig, who had 83 yards on four carries, made it 28-0 early in the second half with a 66-yard touchdown jaunt.

Austin Roberts got Eastern (1-5, 1-4) on the board with 3:53 left in the third quarter on a 1-yard TD plunge. The Musketeers had 235 yards of its own on the ground, led by Brian Arnold’s 86 yards. Arnold also had a catch for eight yards.

Scot Ames added 57 yards on the ground and Jordan Eberle added 56 for Eastern. The two teams combined for 23 passing yards on 19 attempts.

Eastern goes on the road next Friday to face Washington County-rival Salem. The Lions are 3-3 overall and 3-2 in the MSC after a 35-0 loss to Charlestown on Friday. North Harrison hosts Silver Creek (3-3, 2-3) next Friday. The Dragons beat Clarksville 53-22 on Friday.
