H.S. BOYS' TENNIS SECTIONAL DRAW: Devils, Pioneers to meet in Jeff Sectional semis

FC, Creek, Bulldogs to try to continue title streaks

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — Two of the top boys’ tennis teams in Southern Indiana will face each other right off the bat at this week’s Jeffersonville Sectional at the Jeffersonville High School Tennis Center.

The 12th-ranked Red Devils will take on archrival Providence in one of two semifinals at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The other semifinal will pit New Washington against Clarksville. The championship match will be at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The Red Devils defeated the Pioneers on Sept. 10 in a rain-shortened match at Jeff, 4-0. Jeff and Providence met in the semifinals of last year’s sectional with the Red Devils prevailing 4-0.

Jeff has won six consecutive sectional championships. The Pioneers’ lone sectional title happened in 2006.

FLOYD CENTRAL SECTIONAL

Floyd Central will face Salem in the Floyd Central Sectional opener at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

If the Highlanders win their first-round match, they will take on Eastern in one of two semifinals at 5 p.m. on Thursday. North Harrison and Crawford County will square off in the other Thursday semi. The championship will take place at 5 p.m. on Friday.

Floyd Central ranks sixth in the state in sectional championships with 29, which includes its current streak of 26 consecutive titles.

SILVER CREEK SECTIONAL

Silver Creek, which is tied for sixth place with Floyd Central for the most sectional titles in Indiana with 29, will take on Mid-Southern Conference rival Charlestown in Wednesday’s semifinals at the Silver Creek Sectional.

The other semifinal on Wednesday will pit West Clark rivals Henryville and Borden against each other. Both semis will begin at 4:15 p.m.

The championship will be at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Dragons have won 23 sectional crowns in a row.

NEW ALBANY SECTIONAL

Host New Albany will take on Christian Academy in one of two semifinals on Thursday. The semis will begin at 4:15 p.m.

The other semi will have Corydon Central facing the winner of Wednesday’s sectional opener between South Central and Lanesville. The championship will take place Friday.

The Bulldogs have captured 24 sectional titles, which includes a current streak of nine straight championships.
