HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: New Albany sweeps DH at Scottsburg

Marcum has 5-for-5 day for Bulldogs

SCOTTSBURG — The New Albany Bulldogs went to Scottsburg and came back with two wins in a doubleheader on Saturday.

The Bulldogs received good pitching throughout both games and their offense carried hot bats all day.

In the first game, New Albany’s offense produced through out the lineup.

Class 4A No. 5 New Albany (19-2) racked up 17 hits and pushed across 12 runs in a 12-2 rout of the Warriors (5-15). The Bulldogs had five players who had multihit games.

Four pitchers were used during the game to pick up the victory. AJ Nixon was the starter and was credited with the win. Nixon pitched three innings and only allowed one hit and no runs while striking out one batter.

The Bulldog offense was paced by Timmie Redford, who went 4-for-5 with three RBIs. Teammates Matt Sogge and Jarius McClure were both 2-for-5.

Also for New Albany, Brady Parr was 2-for-2 and connected for two doubles. Tucker Marcum was also 2-for-2 and Joey Collins connected for a home run.

The second game was more of the same from New Albany. The Bulldogs jumped out of the gate and put a seven spot up in the first frame.

New Albany quickly added three more runs before the game was called after the fifth due to rain and lightning, giving New Albany a 10-2 victory.

Sheldon Miller-Embry was the man on the hill for the Bulldogs in the second game. He pitched four innings, giving up two runs on four hits and struck out five, while walking just one.

New Albany’s offense stayed on a roll and belted out 10 hits in the short outing. Marcum added three more hits to his afternoon with a 3-for-3 performance, adding three RBIs. On the day, Marcum was a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate.

Also for the Bulldogs, Jack Shine was 2-for-2 and Joey Collins went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and hit his second homer of the afternoon.

New Albany will open Hoosier Hills Conference play on Monday, when it travels to Jennings County to take on the Panthers. Former Jeffersonville head coach Al Rabe is the manager at Scottsburg.
