Baker commits to Lamar

Jeff star picks Cardinals, former AAU coach Wilkerson

JEFFERSONVILLE — Darryl Baker has made his college choice and it’s Lamar University.

Baker told Matt Dennison of Hoosier Hills Hoops that he would take his game to the Beaumont, Texas, university in the fall.

Baker will reportedly have to sit out next season due to his academic standing and will begin playing for the Cardinals in 2014-15.

Baker’s former AAU coach and former Jeffersonville star Sherron Wilkerson is on Pat Knight’s staff at Lamar.

Baker averaged 23.4 points and helped 24-4 season. The Baker-led Devils won sectional and regional titles before losing to Cathedral in the Seymour Semistate on Saturday.

A season after winning the Southland Conference Tournament and making an appearance in the NCAA Tournament, Lamar went 3-28 in 2012-13. The Cardinals were 1-17 in the Southland.

ESPN.com reported that Baker chose Lamar over Missouri and Ohio. Yahoo! Sports also listed Butler, Cincinnati, Indiana, Louisville, Ohio State, Purdue and Xavier among the programs courting Baker.
