AUTO RACING: Kimmel fifth in New Jersey

Clarksville native earns third top-five finish at road course

MILLVILLE, N.J. — Frank Kimmel survived the 2 1/4-mile road course at New Jersey Motorsports Park on Sunday.

The Clarksville native and the 10-time ARCA Racing Series champion finished fifth in the Great Railing 150 after qualifying seventh. It was Kimmel’s third career top-five finish at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

“I tell you, I had a great car today,” Kimmel told arcaracing.com about his No. 44 Win-Tron Racing Toyota. “It was the best car I’ve had on a road course. This Win-Tron team put together a solid package for me.”

Kimmel is currently third in the ARCA point standings, trailing points leader Grant Enfinger by 130 points. Enfinger wound up a spot ahead of Kimmel in the race, placing fourth.

Andrew Ranger won the race for the fourth consecutive season. Brian Wong finished second and Matt Tifft was third.

Both cars from Clarksville-based Kimmel Racing finished in the top 12. Raul Orlandini, a native of Lima, Peru, placed eighth and Port Orange, Fla., native Michael Lira ended up 12th. Henryville resident Darrell Basham finished 19th.

ARCA’s next race will be on Saturday at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa. The race will be televised on Fox Sports 1, starting at 1 p.m.
