One of Floyd County’s most wanted was arrested Tuesday night. Garland Miller Sr., 54, of New Albany, was arrested for theft and fraud, both class D felonies.

A warrant was issued for his arrest on June 26 after a man reported that Miller — who he had let live in his home — had stolen his ATM card and withdrawn money from his account, according to a probable-cause affidavit. The alleged victim also reported that Miller had stolen two clarinets and a .38-caliber handgun.

Officers with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department were able to trace the card to a local convenience store, and Miller was seen on the store’s surveillance camera. The thefts occurred between May 19 and May 23, according to the report.

In 1998, Miller was convicted of molesting a 7-year-old girl, a class B felony. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison with 10 years probation. He was released in 2002 with good time credit.

In January 2006, Miller violated his probation by not reporting to his officer as directed, according to court records.

Miller is being held in the Floyd County Jail. His bond is listed at $20,000. He must pay $2,000 cash to be released.

• The Floyd County Sheriff’s Department is also asking for the public’s help to track down two more fugitives.

Curtis L. Brown Jr., 35, allegedly robbed the Tumbleweed Restaurant at Charlestown Crossing and took nearly $5,000 in August 2003 while armed with a deadly weapon. He is charged with armed robbery, a class B felony.

Brown is a black male with black hair and brown eyes and is listed as 5 feet, 11 inches tall and 207 pounds. Police say he should be considered armed and dangerous.

James Douglas Wright Jr., 27, was allegedly involved in three October 2007 burglaries and had previously resisted law enforcement. Wright, along with two co-defendants who were arrested, were accused of stealing liquor and money from the American Legion in Floyd Knobs and an automatic teller machine from Steinert’s Grill and Pub along Charlestown Road in New Albany.

The group also allegedly tried to break into Office Depot along State Street in New Albany but were scared away by a cleaning crew inside. Wright also had a habitual offender filing against him shortly after the alleged burglary spree because of two past felony burglary-related convictions in Florida.

Wright is a white male with brown hair and brown eyes. He is listed as 6 feet, 3 inches and 150 pounds. Charges against him include burglary, theft, resisting law enforcement and operating while intoxicated.
