Basketball fans who plan to drive to Indianapolis to watch the Louisville-Kentucky game in the NCAA Tournament should plan their trips to account for road construction, according to an Indiana Department of Transportation news release.

Construction crews are rebuilding and rehabilitating portions of Interstate 65 near Exit 41, Uniontown, and Exit 50, Seymour.

“Construction crews are pulling back barrels and barricades this weekend to the greatest extent possible, but basketball fans should plan extra time where speed limits are reduced,” according to the INDOT release.

In addition, the U.S. 421 bridge spanning the Ohio River between Madison, Ind., and Milton, Ky., is closed for construction. Alternate routes include the Locks and Dam Bridge near Markland, Ind., or interstate bridges near Cincinnati.

Up-to-the-minute information on road construction and closures is available at or by calling 800-261-ROAD (7623).

“Drivers who commit lane violations or charge and elbow their way into traffic are subject to increased work-zone fines,” according to the release. “Drivers are encouraged to know the three-second rule: Allow three seconds following distance between the vehicle in front of you.”

INDOT plans to close S.R. 256 at Austin, from U.S. 31 to Audrey Lane, to all through-traffic on Tuesday.

Detour signs are in place to route motorists around the construction area via U.S. 31, S.R. 56 and S.R. 203. Access to residences and businesses will be maintained.
