Hosparus seeks hospice volunteers
Hosparus Southern Indiana seeks patient support volunteers in Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Harrison, Scott and Washington counties and will host a free training from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 12, at its new location, 502 Hausfeldt Lane, New Albany. Lunch will be provided.

Volunteers help with patient and family support, administrative duties and development/fundraising. Hosparus carefully selects volunteers and provides them with comprehensive training specially designed to meet the needs of patients and families. Learn about weight loss
Clark Memorial Hospital Bariatric Weight Loss Program is hosting a free weight loss seminar at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 10, at the Kathryn Raines Education and Conference Center in the hospital, 1220 Missouri Ave., Jeffersonville.
Dr. Daniel MacMillan and Dr. Patri Marconi, of Surgical Associates Southern Indiana, will present information on obesity and the laparoscopic weight loss procedure offered at Clark Memorial Hospital. Registered nurse Carolyn McKee, bariatric coordinator, will talk about how a comprehensive post-procedure follow-up program benefits weight loss patients and she will go over basic insurance information and guidelines.
Clark Memorial’s Bariatric Weight Loss Program offers a minimally invasive surgical procedure called laparoscopic gastric banding.

Hymn sing set for Saturday
The Harvest Church of God Band will be singing during the hymn sing at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Grace Family Worship Church of God, 202 E. Maple Street, Jeffersonville.

Cook Memorial United Methodist Church, 1025 Allison Lane, Jeffersonville, will hold a miscellaneous sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., both indoor and outdoor, Saturday, Oct. 12, at the church.
Lunch and Learn series continues
Carnegie Center’s Lunch and Learn series will continue from noon to 1 p.m. Oct. 15 with a visit to the New Albany studio of artist Scott Scarboro to get a behind-the-scenes view of his art-making process, as part of the Scott Scarboro is a multimedia artist from Kentucky now residing in New Albany.
He was selected for the 2011 New Albany Public Art Project: Bicentennial Series. As a part of that project, his public art audio installation Time Ghost tower — casts No. 1 and No. 2 — was installed at the intersection of Market and Scribner until summer 2013. His Upcycle, located at Fourth and Broadway in Louisville, is part of the Louisville Downtown District’s Public Art Bike Rack Program.

Youth league hosting fundraiser
The New Albany Youth League will be hosting a flapjack fundraiser from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Applebee’s, 3030 Grant Line Road, New Albany.
Proceeds raised will help purchase new equipment and uniforms. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased at the door or by calling 423-714-6047.

Kids costume contest judging will begin at 7:30 p.m. and adult costume judging at 7:45 p.m. Gift cards will be awarded for scariest, funniest and most original costumes.Activities will include: A haunted forest hayride, cake walk, Bluegrass concert, old time flea market, corn hole, face painting and more.
