Jeffersonville police say they have an idea of the identity of the skeletal remains found behind Faith Lutheran Church on Allison Lane on March 29.

While police have not confirmed the identity, Jeffersonville Police Detective Isaac Parker said, “We strongly believe the remains are that of Stephen Reedy.”

Parker said JPD issued a missing persons report on Reedy in September 2011, and that he was a resident of an apartment complex near where the remains were discovered. Parker said Reedy was 26 years old when the missing persons report was filed.

Clark County Coroner Terry Conway said Friday that officials with the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office in Kentucky have determined the skeletal remains to be that of a male, but the age of the male has not been determined. He also said officials have not determined the cause of death of the person whose remains are being examined.

Dental remains are being reviewed by a forensic dentist, Conway said. He said he was told the findings of the forensic dentist should become available in the next three weeks.

Parker said JPD will wait for the release of the dental records before making a final confirmation on the identity of the remains.

Police previously reported the remains were found by a groundskeeper employed by the church while he was preparing to mow the lawn around the facility.
