Jonathan Edwin Spencer, 59; formerly of Charlestown

Jonathan Edwin Spencer, 59, of Cameron, La., formerly of Charlestown, died Thursday, July 10, 2008, at University Medical Center, Lafayette, La. He was in the presence of a family member and the caring staff of the University Medical Center when he embarked on his last journey.

He was a former resident of Charlestown, Craigsville, W. Va., Cameron, La. and parts unknown and all points between. He leaves friends in all locations. His eyes were harvested at the time of his death and his family sincerely hopes any recipients share his perspective that fed his remarkable sense of humor. He spent his last hours and his last smiles listening to the reading of several of Mark Twain’s shorter pieces of fiction.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Frances and Gilbert Reynolds, of Jeffersonville; four brothers, Paul of Louisville, Tom of Carencro, La., Steve of Jeffersonville and Matt, of Otisco; a sister, Barbara Walker of Utica; and a host of nieces and nephews. Longtime friend, Brian Walker of Lafayette, La., was a trusted caregiver during the last week of his life.

He was preceded in death by twin sons, Aaron and Daron, his father, Edwin and a brother, David.
