John J. Heitkempe, 93; World War II veteran
Funeral services for John J. Heitkemper, 93, of Lanesville, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lanesville, with burial in St. Mary’s Catholic Church Cemetery, with military rites. He died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Louisville.
He was born on Aug. 1, 1915, in Louisville, the son of John E. and Rosa Bischoff Heitkamper. He was a retired employee of the National Distillery in Louisville and a farmer. He was a decorated Army veteran of World War II, a member of the VFW Post 3281 in New Albany and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lanesville.
Survivors include his wife, the former Mildred Weyer of Lanesville; three sons, Guy Heitkemper and wife, Ann, Jim Heitkemper and wife, Sara and Robert Heitkemper and wife, Katrina, all of Elizabeth; five daughters, Mary Wismann and husband, John, Hurst, Texas, Ruth Shumaker and husband, Lee, Georgetown, Norma Menges, Lanesville, Linda Hubbard and husband, Joel, Corydon and Donna Hublar and husband, Rob, Elizabeth; two sisters, Rosalee Elble and Dorothy Heitkamper, both of Louisville; 19 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren
Visitation at Gehlbach and Royse Funeral Home, Georgetown, will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 28, noon to 8 p.m. Friday and after 8 a.m. Saturday. A Rosary service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 7 p.m.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lanesville or to the V.A Medical Center Hospice Fund.
