Funeral services for Melvin E. Mayfield, 84, of New Albany, will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes, Oak Street Chapel, New Albany, with interment in Antioch Church Cemetery, Elizabeth. He died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at the V.A. Hospital in Louisville. He was a retired wood worker from Wilcor, Co., and was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include a son, Harry Mayfield and his wife, Robin, of New Albany; daughter, Marcia Mayfield and her husband, Randy, of New Albany; brother, Orville Mayfield, of New Albany; sisters, Alice Faith, of South Carolina, Georgia Zippen, of Sellersburg, and Anna Schad, of Memphis; two grandchildren, Kimberly Plaiss and her husband, Eric, and Steven Mayfield; and two great-grandchildren, Carl James “CJ” Harding, III, and Eric Scott Plaiss Jr.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Corinne Mayfield; parents, Orville and Emma Mayfield; and sister, Donna Scrogham.
Visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, and after 9 a.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
