Donnie “Magoo” Monroe, 59, Corydon

— Funeral services for Donnie “Magoo” Monroe, 59, of Corydon, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon. Rev. Randy Kirk and Pastor Vince Garmon will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery near Corydon.

Monroe died Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at his home near Corydon. He was born March 1, 1954, in Corydon, to Wilma Gayle Garbrough Monroe and the late William Gilbert Monroe. He was formerly employed as a lineman with the Harrison County REMC, was a member of First Capital Christian Church in Corydon, and was passionate about fixing and building cars or anything with an engine.

He was preceded in death by his father and his sister, Ruth Anne Monroe.

Survivors include his best friend and fiancé, of 13 years, Sheila Melton Kennon; his mother of Corydon; his sons, Jeremy B. Monroe of Brandenburg, Ky., and Dustin L. Monroe of Corydon; his daughter, Paige L. Monroe and husband, Matt Bockting, of Milltown; his stepson, Jesse Melton of Corydon; his stepdaughters, Amber Kidd and husband, Bryan, of Depauw, Ind.; and Christina Kennon of Corydon; his brothers, James William Monroe and wife, Joannie; and Gary Gilbert Monroe and wife, Judy, both of Corydon; and Roger Lewis Franks and wife, Kathleen, of Springfield, Ohio; his sister, Virginia Sue Monroe Purvis and husband, Larry, of Corydon; and 10 grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Pallbearers will be Joe Mathes, Mike Marshall, Frank Boris, Jay Wyatt, Cody Cotner and Gary Welch. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry and Joshua Purvis.
